Its shape is there. Its texture is there. I&#8217;ve spent hours mixing, molding, brushing, and shaping it into something that feels right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yet, something is still missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a long time, I believed it was my job to create every detail. More texture. More depth. More character. I wanted each pot to feel complete the day it left my workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the years, I realized that some things are simply not mine to create.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can make a pot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I cannot make time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">***<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sun will leave marks I never could have imagined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rain will soften its colors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Winter may open a tiny crack that gives it more character than a perfectly smooth edge ever could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A patch of moss may appear where no one expected it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps a lichen will choose that pot as its home for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No recipe can produce these things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">***<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can prepare the foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can choose honest materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can respect the slow rhythm of making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But everything that comes afterward belongs to time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That may be what fascinates me most about this craft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I never create a finished object.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I create the beginning of a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">***<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps that is why I never feel disappointed when one of my pots changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quite the opposite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each season leaves behind something I could never have shaped with my own hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pot becomes less new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it becomes more itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">***<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, when I look at some of my oldest pots, I no longer think,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;I did good work.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, I find myself thinking,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;Thank you, Time, for finishing what I began.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because, in the end, our hands create the object.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But in the end, time is the last artisan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">***<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Sometimes the most beautiful part of a handmade object is the part the maker never touched.<\/em><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary A handmade hypertufa pot is never truly finished when it leaves the workshop.
